The latest "Calebism"

12/17/11
Last weekend we were at the MDA Holiday party. He opened up the gift they gave him and it was a set of toy cars. He exclaimed, "Hot Wheels! They're so awesome 'cuz their wheels are so HOT!!!"

I can't believe I forgot to put this one on here!!! A couple of months ago we ended up in the ER with Caleb - he had the flu and just had a rough night. While we were there he saw a nurse pass by in the hallway. He stopped mid-sentence and said, "Whoa. She is so beau-tee-ful. I think I want to add her to my collection."

Don't forget to check out Calebisms Archived at the bottom of the page.

What is Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy?

In June of 2007 Caleb was diagnosed with Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (UCMD). This is an extremely rare form of Muscular Dystrophy - to date there are only a few hundred documented cases worldwide. It is considered a slowly progressive and life-limiting form of MD.

This does not mean that hope is lost. There is new research being done for this disease, as well as many other neuromuscular disorders. In the last 4 years, Caleb's Crew has raised over $65,000 for the MDA and designated all funds to go towards research for UCMD.

Please click on the links below to find out more detailed information regarding UCMD, as well as to support the MDA and Cure CMD, two wonderful organizations.

Thank you,

Amy (aka Mommy)

7/31/11
Caleb told his Grandma Lou-Lou the other day, "Grandma, you're a really great girl. And you're old."

6/14/11
I got a couple for you this time:
1) Last week Caleb and I were having a conversation about something - I forget exactly what - but somehow I ended up making the statement, "Well I made you." He looked up at me with wide eyes and said, "What?! You made me? You mean I'm a robot?!"

2) Yesterday Caleb was going potty and told me, "Mom, I'm going number 3, because I have to do both number 1 AND number 2."

6/6/11
Yesterday we were in the car and Caleb decided to test our math skills. He started by asking us, "What's 1 + 1? What's 2 + 2? What's 4 + 4?" And so on. He kept taking our answer, then doubling the number until he got to, "What's 2,048 + 2,048?" Jeff answered, "4096." Caleb responded with, "I'm not buying it."

5/19/11
Caleb was in Kylie's room with her, when he noticed some bras she had hanging on a drying rack. He exclaimed, "Look at all those boobies!" She said, "Those are called bras." He then asked, "So is that a booby trap?"

4/6/11
The other night when I was putting Caleb to bed he told me, "Mom, tomorrow morning I'm gonna wake up SUPER early. I mean like before the sun comes up. And I'm gonna have somebody put me in my walker, and then I'm gonna practice my karate moves! Cuz I'm gonna be the first real Super Hero, so I need some really good karate moves."

3/17/11
Sometimes Caleb hears things a little differently than how they are actually said. Lately, instead of saying something's getting on his nerves, he says, "It's getting in my nerds."

2/18/11
Yesterday morning Caleb woke up bright and early as usual, and almost immediately called for me to come get him. Thinking he needed to go potty, or something, I asked, "What do you need, buddy?" He responded, "Uh, to get up, of course."

2/16/11
Caleb was just playing with some Lego Star Wars figures and he kept trying to get one to swing on a string with a hook, but it kept coming off. He decided to ask for some tape. After he put a piece on he said, "Look, Dad! I put a piece of tape on Ahsokatano and now she's flying in style!"

2/15/11
Jeff was going to watch a funny youtube video and Caleb said, "I want to watch it, too." I told him that it wasn't appropriate for kids to watch. When he asked why, I told him it was because it used naughty language. To which he responded, "I don't mind."

1/11/11
It's been awhile, so we've got a few Calebisms. The first is from when we were in the hospital. At one point he said, "I'm so tired. I'm just tired of all this..... doctorness!"

The next was when he was coming out of anesthesia from surgery and he kept talking and sounded very intoxicated. He kept saying, "Mom, I wanna go home." Then he said in a VERY drunk-sounding voice, "We gotta skidaddle."

The last was when Caleb was telling Kylie about his girl trouble. He told her he had too many girlfriends to choose from. Kylie asked him what he had to choose them for, and he said, "To marry, of course."

11/24/10 Caleb is learning about punctuation in school, and they use a lot of cute little sayings to help the kids remember all sorts of things. So whenever Caleb writes a sentence, he says, "They call him Mr. Period." One day it went something like this, "They call him Mr. Period. Hey! Where's Mrs. Period?!" Oh, Caleb. You really don't want to know the answer to that.

11/3/10 I was volunteering at Caleb's school when he hollered across the playground, "Hey, Mom. Sugar and booger rhyme!" He's such a boy.

9/24/10 Last night Caleb decided to tell me, "Mom, sometimes when dad plays the piano, it's just too loud, and I want quiet time because I'm trying to concentrate on playing with my toys. So I just telled Daddy, 'Please stop making all that racket!'" Apparently Caleb is 5 going on 75.

9/15/10 Although Caleb LOVES Star Wars, he does have other interests as well. He likes very "boy" things like Bakugans and Pokemon. The other night he was telling me something about Pokemon, and then he told me, "Mom, that is Poke-tastic!"

8/28/10 Last night Grandma Lou Lou and Grandpa Chuck got to babysit Caleb while Jeff and I had a grown-up dinner. When we got there to pick him up, it was late, so he was asleep, of course. We gently transferred him to the car, then into bed when we got home. this morning when CAleb woke up he said, "How did I even get here?! It's like magic!"

8/26/10 The other day Caleb was in a pretty tough time out - he was yelling, crying and just plain ticked! All of a sudden he yells at Jeff through tears, "Well, EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED TO EVERYTHING!" It was pretty much impossible to keep a straight face after that. Click here to see what he got that phrase from. It's hilarious!

6/30/10 Yesterday Caleb was telling me about a very elaborate dream he had. There was a tornado, so he and Obi Wan Kenobi were hitting it with their light sabors, and then General Grievous came to fight them. Then an alligator bit the tornado and stopped it and Caleb and Obi Wan defeated General Grievous and all the other bad guys. At the the end I said, "Wow, Caleb, if a tornado ever comes around here I'm gonna stick with you to keep me safe." Caleb got a look of disappointment on his face and said, "But mom, I don't really have a lightsabor. But you know what would help?! An alligator!" So, next time you find yourself in a tornado, make sure to have your alligator nearby.

On another note, last night when I was saying goodnight to Caleb he called me back into his room to tell me, "Remember, mom, if you have any bad dreams, just come in here and get me and I will help you feel better." He's such an angel.

6/25/10 I think Caleb is a little confused with his senses. The other night when we were eating dinner I asked Caleb if he liked how it tasted. He said, "I do, but it looks like it smells hot."

5/25/10 This morning I asked Caleb if he had a good sleep. He said, "Yeah. I just dreamed about how much I love you, and how we play together, and how we take good care of our teeth." Grandpa Steve and Auntie Shana (who are both dentists will be so proud :)

5/1/10 Last night I was taking Caleb to the potty when he told me, "Mom, I just thinked about my body. Then I telled you I needed to go potty, and BAAAAM, you taked me to the potty!" I had no idea I was raising the next Emerile Lagasse :)

Caleb is also still very much into Star Wars. A few nights ago someone came over to our house and the first thing Caleb said to him was, "Hi, you wanna fight with me? We have guns and light sabers here!" What an enticing proposition!

3/29/10 A couple of nights ago we had a couple of friends over for dinner. My friend Alicia was playing the Wii with Caleb, and he was (of course) copping feels of her hair. He then said, "I love you... What's your name again?" It starts early, doesn't it?

3/6/10 Yesterday it started raining while we were driving, so I started singing, "It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring. He bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning." Caleb said, "Why couldn't he get up? Did he die?!" I think he's been playing too much Lego Star Wars.

2/10/10 Yesterday we were teaching Caleb that the President of the United States is Barack Obama, and the Vice President is Joe Biden. Later on we asked him who the President was and he said, "JoeBama."

1/16/10 Caleb is officially MY son! When he was waking up this morning, I heard him rustling a little in his bed (we still have a monitor in there). He apparently noticed that the sun was way up, and the first thing he said was, "MAN, I am really getting late!"

On another note, his favorite game to play on the Wii these days is Lego Star Wars. Something that he tells me often when he plays is, "Mommy, he died me." I just can't get myself to correct him 'cuz this is so cute.

12/19/09 Caleb: Mommy, you're a cowboy. Me: But I'm not a boy. Caleb: OK, Mommy, I'm the boy and you're the cow. Great!

11/27/09 I was holding Caleb up with one arm while getting him ready to go potty. He kind of flopped to where I had to hold him up. I asked, "Caleb, do you like falling?" He said, "No, that was just a dance move."

11/24/09 Last night when I was putting Caleb to bed, out of the blue he exclaimed, "I gotta get outta here!" So I asked him, "Where are you going?" He responded, "I think I'll go to Egypt, or something." I hope he's got his passport ready.

11/11/09 The other day I was disciplining Caleb (yes, as sweet as he is, he still has his moments). I had an extremely difficult time keeping a straight face when he started yelling at the top of his lungs, "CHILL OUT, MAMA. JUST CHILL OUT!!!"

11/3/09 Yesterday we were at Dan and Tanya's house for dinner. Caleb was having tons of fun playing with all his cousins, especially the boys. They were playing chase, and sword-fighting with light-sabors, typical boy stuff. At one point Caleb came up to me and very politely said, "Excuse me, Mommy, but I'm going to destroy those boys."

10/3/09 Yesterday we went grocery shopping and there was one baby that kept crying. Caleb turned to Jeff and asked, "Dad, who is louding?"

9/22/09 Today Caleb and I saw two gentlemen walking towards us. They were both wearing slacks, dress shirts and ties. Caleb suddenly yells out, "Mom, look at those guys! They both have really long bows!"

8/21/09 I was just asking Caleb what he wants for his birthday. He said, "A train, a car, and a new Mater. Oh, aaaand a clean bathroom!" Apparently I haven't been keeping up with my cleaning duties enough lately.

8/8/09 Caleb was pretending to be a doctor, and he told Jeff that his blood pressure was "10 miles and second place." I hope that's good, otherwise I'm not sure if there's an appropriate medication...

8/4/09 Caleb has had a couple of rough nights due to an ear infection ("swimmer's ear"). At about 3:30 in the morning, I heard Caleb crying/whining, so I got up to see how he was doing. He kind of whined at me through closed eyes that he didn't want to rest anymore, then nodded off. When I closed the door to his room, he started crying again. So I went back in to see if he needed Motrin or something. He then said to me, "Mom, maybe I will just dream about noodles." Then he went back to sleep.

7/27/09 Yesterday we were asking Caleb about Little Kangaroo, because the little marsupial just hasn't been around much lately. According to Caleb he's been resting and working at the golf course. Then he stated, "Little Kangaroo loves me because he really loves me." It's always nice to feel so loved.

7/6/09 Potty training is going much better these days...Caleb is telling us when he needs to "go", for the most part. However, we were out to lunch with his Auntie Stormy and Cousin Kellen the other day. Caleb and Kellen had been bickering all day - you know the usual 3/4 year-old stuff: "That's a trolly bridge." "No it's not." "Yes it is." "No it's not!" etc., etc... While we were eating Caleb suddenly exclaims, "Stop it!" At this point Kellen was quietly eating his meal, so we all just looked at Caleb. He then exclaimed, "Pee pee, stop trying to come out!" So I took him to the potty where we barely made it.

6/26/09 When disciplining Caleb, we usually give him a choice, such as, "Do you want to talk nicely or go in time out?" Luckily he usually does NOT choose time out. Currently, he is also very concerned if he thinks I'm not happy, and tells me I need to smile if I'm happy. His new favorite phrase is, "Mommy, you need to be happy or you go in time out!" Lucky for me this cracks me up every time, so I get happy really fast - no time outs for me...yet :)

6/15/10 This morning Caleb woke up and I heard him in bed chatting and playing, which is a usual occurance. I heard something like, "Hey, c'mon. Oh no, aaahhh. Pkshow (not really sure how to spell a crashing noise)." I realized he didn't take any toys with him to bed last night, so I was curious what he was playing with. When I walked in he had his feet up in the air and he said, "Good morning mom. Hey watch this." He had Cars socks on, with a picture of Lightning McQueen on each foot. He then showed me how he was making his feet talk to and crash into each other. The kid can amuse himself with just about anything :)

6/1/09 There's a song on the radio called "Poker Face" that Caleb has heard a few times. Last time he heard it he asked, "Mommy, what's a poker face?" So I explained that it was a really straight face; not too happy or sad. Then he asked, "And it's pokey?" As I sat there laughing he went on to say, "I don't want a poker face for it will be spikey."

5/27/09 A few nights ago it was a gorgeous evening, sunny and crisp, so we decided to eat dinner outside. When we took our "moment" as a family, we asked Caleb what he was grateful for. He responded, "I'm grateful for this loooovely day!"

5/21/09 Sometimes Caleb comes up with really good analogies. Last weekend we went to the zoo. On the way home, as we were driving by the bay I said, "Caleb, look at all the boats!" He looked, then pointed to a bunch of jet-skis that people were riding and said, "It's just like cars driving on the water."

4/21/09 This morning Caleb was playing with a duck that used to light up, but something inside it broke off. Caleb asked Jeff what was inside, so Jeff told him that a "mechanism is stuck in there." Caleb then turned to me and said, "Hey Mommy, there's a stuckenism in there!"

4/14/09 Tonight I had the opportunity to go shopping at Trader Joe's and decided to get their organic version of Spaghetti-O's (which I never usually get). When I came home, I told Caleb, "Look, I got you Spaghetti-O's." He turned to me with a confused sort of look on his face and said, "Spaghetti at Lowe's?"

4/11/09 The other day Caleb and I were hanging out in the spa. At one point he lost his balance and went under the water. When I picked him up, he wiped the water out of his eyes, looked at me and said, "False alarm!"

3/31/09 If you've spent any time with Caleb you know he has a total hair fetish - he loves to run his fingers through hair! This transfers to anything hair-like. Yesterday he and I took a walk in our neighborhood. He found some little bushes with leaves like really long blades of grass. He wanted to run his fingers through the grass but couldn't quite reach it, so I took him out of his walker and sat him on the lawn right in front of one of these bushes. He started running his hands through the long blades and said he liked the grass. I then asked about the "short grass." He touched it and said, "No, this short grass is pokey." So I asked, "How does the long grass feel?" He said, "This long grass feels lovely."

3/28/09 Caleb is beginning to notice the anatomical differences between boys and girls a lot more these days. I'll spare you some of the more graphic comments... But, last week he told his teacher, Miss Kristin, "I'm a boy because I have boy parts down there."

3/18/09 We just got a Wii, and Caleb is loving playing it. A couple of nights ago we were at Costco, and when we were leaving I asked him what he wanted to do when we got home. He responded with great enthusiasm, "I want to play the Waaaaa!!! I mean, the Wiiiii!!!

The Wii also brought up a Calebism from when he was about 18 mos. or so. One of his favorite books was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." When we would bring it out to read it to him, he would say Caterpillar in his own way, which was, "Taptewiwiwiwi." This is my favorite baby word of Caleb's.

3/7/09 Last night Caleb was eating a little bag of M&M's for dessert. He looked at the bag and exclaimed, "Mommy, those M&M's can walk!" He then spent about 5 minutes trying to figure out why the picture of the M&M's showed them walking, but the ones he was eating weren't.

On another note, about a week ago Caleb was lying on our bed next to our cat, Bumblebee. As he was petting her he said, "I'm sorry, Bumblebee, but you're a spaz." Click here to see just one of the many reasons why she's such a spaz.

2/22/09 Yesterday Jeff told Caleb that he needed to take 5 more bites of his meal, and then he would be done (I was upstairs doing laundry). He then asked Caleb, "If you take one bite, how many more bites will you have to take?" Caleb responded, "Four." "And if you take one more bite, how many more?" "Three." And so on, until all the bites were done. Jeff then yelled up to me, "Honey, Caleb's got the concept of subtraction!" Caleb then hollered, "Mommy, I got traction!"

2/14/09 Yesterday Caleb said a couple of things that were really quite funny. The first was that I had a haircut appointment, and I was going to meet Jeff there so he could take care of Caleb. Caleb was acting up a little, which was making us late. Caleb then asked, "You are happy, mom?" and I said, "I'm just grumpy, Caleb." He then said, "You need to be happy, mom. You need to stop grumping!"

The next Calebism that brought a smile to my face was at the hair salon. Jeff and Caleb had walked around outside and just kind of hung out waiting for me. When I was finished, Caleb said to me, "Mommy, you look warm!" When I had a puzzled look on my face, Jeff explained that he had told Caleb to tell me I looked "hot."

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day. Hopefully you will look warm, and won't grump around :)

2/12/09 When we stopped by Caleb's class today, one of the aides told me a very cute and insightful thing Caleb said. Apparently she was wearing a necklace that had a pretty significant sized diamond that was her mother's, who has passed on. When Caleb saw it, he said, "Miss Marfa (Martha), it catches the light!" What an incredible way for a 3 year old to describe something!

2/8/09 Caleb has a few espressions that he says quite often these days that are pretty cute. 1) "Peeps." As in, "Mommy, I got poops and peeps in my diaper." 2) "I'm just kidding." 3) "Oh, sure, sure." 4) "This is mines" (as opposed to yours).

2/4/09 Tonight while Caleb was taking a bath he was playing with some sea creature figurines. He had them behind him and was kind of sitting on some, while he was singing a song. It was to the Five Little Monkeys tune, and went something like this. "Five little sea creatures jumping on me. One came off and into the water and bonked his head. Now there's four little sea creatures jumping on me. One came off and into the water and bonked his head. Now four little sea creatures jumping on me. One came off and into the water and bonked his head. Now four little...Wait. Four AGAIN?!"

1/24/09 Recently I found a bag of toys that I used to use when working with children with autism. Amongst the toys was a baby doll. Caleb immediately wanted to play with it, feed it a bottle, and put it to bed (he thought it was so cool that the eyes would open and close). Tonight he showed the baby to daddy, who was not thrilled at the idea of his son playing with a doll all dressed in lavender. I asked Caleb what the baby's name was, and he said, "I don't know." I then told Caleb that he got to pick a name for the baby. He replied, "Oh, his name is Rocco!" Daddy was then fine with him playing with the doll since it had such a macho name.

1/10/09 Tonight Jeff and I went to my belated holiday party for work while Grandma Lou Lou and Grandpa Chuck babysat Caleb. When Grandma was putting him to bed she told him to have, "sweet dreams about sunshine, snow, and lollipops." He replied, "I'm going to dream about exercise."

1/7/09 As with many kids, Caleb is not always thrilled about going to bed at night and he often acts sad about one thing or another. Last night when it was time for lights out, he started whining. When I asked him why, amongst other reasons, he stated, "I'm so sad because I lost my combine harvester." I'll let you know if we find it...I would think a combine harvester would be hard to misplace.

12/22/08 Last night when I brought Caleb upstairs to bed, I pretended to be so tired that I "collapsed" on him. I said, "Caleb, I'm so tired and my back hurts." He then responded, "My back hurts, too. I need to go see a chi-ro-prac-tor to make it all better." Wow, he's cute and drumming up business for daddy all at the same time!

12/12/08 Yesterday Caleb woke up and told Jeff, "I especially like warm cake with frosting."

Haven't had a random Calebism in a while, but lately he's been saying a phrase, A LOT, that doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. "I want to go on another road and at the party begins!" Whatever it means, it sure sounds fun!

12/1/08 The other day Caleb was eating ice cream (again). He stopped eating for a while, so I asked him, "Are you gonna eat your ice cream, or what?" He responded, "I'm gonna do what!"

11/23/08 Poor Caleb has been to so many doctors lately. The other day I decided to take him to work with me for a couple of hours to finish some paperwork, so I told him we were going to mommy's office. While we were on our way over, he exclaimed, "We're going to a doctor's office." While were were there, I left the room for a minute while he sat in his wheelchair playing on the computer. When I came back, Caleb told me, "A doctor come in and I say 'hi'." I figured out that the "doctor" that came in was the principal of the school. Apparently any adult who seems like an authority figure is now a "doctor."

11/14/08 The other day Caleb melted my heart when out of the blue he said, "Mommy, I totally love you."

11/2/08 Caleb has been very excited about Halloween and all the decorations. Everytime he would see some decorations, he would exclaim, "There's a Halloween over there!" He was thrilled a couple of weeks ago when I put up a string of jack-o-lantern lights in the front room, exclaiming, "There's Halloween in our house, now!" I took down the lights yesterday and packed up all the decorations. Caleb noticed this today and said, "Mommy, where'd a Halloween go?!"

10/29/08 Caleb is certainly picking up some expressions from Jeff and me. Today I started busting up when he exclaimed, "That is sooo lame!"

10/15/08 The other day Caleb was holding on to something, and he suddenly exclaimed, "Mommy, how awesome is that?!"

He's definitely learning how to bend the truth, these days (which I hear is a sign of intelligence?). A few days ago, he was getting in a little trouble for not talking nicely. I was getting ready to put him in time out, when he suddenly let out a big sigh, then said, "Mommy, I'm just kidding." Man, they learn that one early!

9/14/08 The other day I was changing Caleb's diaper. He was holding a little dragon figurine and he started grunting like the dragon was going poop. I then asked him if the dragon needed to go poop on the potty, and he said, "Yeah." Then I asked, "Do you need to go poop on the potty?" To which he exclaimed, "YEAH!" So we went into the bathroom and I sat him on the potty. I hadn't realized that he brought the dragon in with him. The next thing I know, Caleb has the dragon "sitting" on the potty right in front of him. Although Caleb didn't do anything, apparently the dragon did, because he then asked for some toilet paper to wipe the dragon's bottom.

On a different note, but somewhat related, yesterday Caleb was holding onto something. He must have gotten a little frustrated because he suddenly hollered, "OOOH CRAP!" I guess it could've been worse :)

8/30/08 Tonight Caleb was watching as the cat licked his paws. I explained that that was how kitties took their baths because they don't like water. He then exclaimed, "I take a bath and daddy takes a shower!" Then I asked, "And what does mommy do." He responded, "Mommy does dishes."

8/28/08 Since Caleb IS mommy's son, he loves chocolate (which he pronounces "tsoklate"). Last night Jeff was eating some chocolate-covered almonds and Caleb was asking for some. I told him they were not for Caleb because they were too big. I then got him a couple of chocolate chips. He exclaimed, "Those big tsoklates are for daddy. And I got smallers!"

Another random Calebism: Caleb is into describing things these days via adjectives. One of his favorites, though, I'm sure is not a real word. He sometimes describes things as "leaney". I'm not quite sure what it means because he often uses it in a context that doesn't necessarily mean that it's thin or that it's leaning over. For instance, "Mommy, that shirt is so leaney!"

8/2/08 These days Caleb is starting to notice other families. Today in the car he looked over and saw a blonde woman driving a minivan and exclaimed, "There's another mommy!" I affirmed that, yes, she was probably somebody's mommy. Then I said, "I'm Caleb's mommy." He then responded, "And I'm mommy's Caleb."

7/30/08 As most of you know, Caleb's appetite and food intake have been an issue for quite a while now. Last night he took it to a different level, though. As I was cooking dinner, he came up to me and said, "Excuse me, mommy." When I said, "yes?" he exclaimed, "Um, I'm not eating any more." So I asked, "Are you on a hunger strike, or something?" He answered, "yeah." I'll keep you all posted if I find out what the hunger strike is about.

Some more random Caleb sayings: "Fafalitte!""Hen hone hen."(Again, don't ask because we don't have a clue.)

7/20/08 So Caleb really is a genius boy. The other evening I was telling Caleb about something that we were going to do the next day, which was playing T-ball with cousins Brookie and Natalie. He got really excited about the activity, even though he had no clue what T-ball was. I explained to him that the sun would go down and then it would be night...that night-time is for sleeping...and when the sun came up it would be day and it would be time to go play T-ball. Later on, he told daddy all about how the sun goes down and it's night and time to sleep. BUT he also added that it gets cold outside at night! I didn't tell him that.

Another random Calebism:"Rhymdemmo."Also, when he's feeling really happy, or excited about what's going on around him, he'll exclaim, "We're all here together!" even if it's just the two of us.

7/8/08 Being 2, Caleb is starting to notice some of the anatomy that makes boys and girls different. The other day he was noticing my "boobies." He then said, "I no have boobies." Then he lifted up his shirt, looked at his chest and said, "I have buttons!"

Another random Caleb saying: "Mommy, you know one to me?"

6/25/08 The other day Caleb and I were eating lunch together. He then exclaimed, "I need a bib, mommy!" So I got him one. He then said, "Mommy, you need a bib, too?" I explained that mommies don't need bibs because they are for catching food when kids spill, and mommies don't spill. The next bite I took, you guessed it, fell off my fork, bounced off my shirt, off my pants and splatted on the floor. I looked at him and said, "Maybe mommy does need a bib."

Some more common things Caleb says that don't make sense:"Geingyes""Oh, my dayas!"

6/16/08 As someone who was trained to do behavioral therapy, I constantly use positive reinforcement with Caleb (and Jeff has picked up on it, too). Well, now Caleb is starting to do it to us. Sometimes when I do something, he'll tell me, "Good job, mommy." Eating is a big issue for him, as he has a small appetite (understatement) and not much meat on his bones. We try and get him excited about food and mealtime. Well, he's picked up on this, too. A few nights ago when we were eating together, he told me, "Good bite, mommy!" He's a little behavioral therapist in training.

Oh, yeah. I forgot a couple of his favorite sayings on the last list: "A shrime thing."and"A super maiyo"(Don't ask, because I don't have a clue what they mean. He just says these things...a lot!)

6/8/08 Caleb has a few phrases that he says a lot that often don't make sense, but are pretty cute. Here it goes:"I think a lot of stuff on that.""One for me and you, and all day long.""And this one all day long." (He likes to add "all day long" to things)"Hey mommy, you know a hunt?""I love you you, too." (He always says "you" twice in this context.)"You are a genius boy ever the whole world." (I'm not sure where he got this whole "genius" thing, but it is now a part of our household vocabulary.)

6/3/08 Tonight we were at a restaurant and Caleb was pretty cranky and whiney. I was trying to figure out what he wanted and if there was anything that could appease him. Apparently I was a little too "in his face," because he suddenly turned to me and yelled, "I'm pooping, Mommy!" He did this in a very "leave me alone" tone.

5/31/08 Yesterday Caleb bit his tongue and started crying a little bit. He then stuck his tongue out and told Jeff to, "kiss it," to make it better.

5/12/08 Last night Caleb came up to me out of the blue and said, "Mommy, you are a genius (pronounced 'genee-us')." And, no, I did not teach him to say that. He wanted me to come in the other room with him to play, and that's what he came up with. It's amazing how young they learn how to brown-nose.

4/26/08 These days Caleb is pretty confused with pronouns and constantly switches you/I. For instance, whenever he wants something, such as a car, he says, "Mommy, you want cars?" A couple of days ago his stomach was bothering him and he exclaimed, "Mommy, my tummy's hurting you."

4/22/08 Yesterday Caleb and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. As we were passing a car he started labeling it by its color (white). But this car had obviously been in a fender-bender and there was a big black circular part where the paint was chipping off. As Caleb struggled to verbalize what was going on with the color and the car, I told him that the car had "bonked its head" (since this is something he's familiar with as having an "owie". He then said in a very sad voice and with a frown, "Oooh, a car bonk a head. I so sad about that." We then spent the rest of the walk looking for more cars that bonked their heads.

4/18/08 One of my colleagues reminded me of something Caleb said a few months ago. When he got the flu in the middle of the night, I woke up to him crying at about 1:00 in the morning. When I went in to see what was wrong, I found that he had thrown up in his bed. He looked up at me and said, "Mommy I spilled." When I shared this story with my mom, she said that I had said the same exact thing when I was little.

4/12/08 Caleb is definitely 2! One of his favorite things is to say the exact opposite of what I say. For instance, a couple weeks ago when I was getting ready to brush his teeth, I said "do you want to lie down?" His response was "how 'bout lie up?" Another time I asked him if he wanted blackberries. He said, "No blackberries, how 'bout white berries!"

Lately, rather than answering a question with "No," Caleb has been saying, "Not." It goes something like this... "Caleb, do you want some dinner?" "Umm, NOT!" I feel like I'm back in the 80's

Caleb loves music these days. Whenever he is listening to music, when one song ends and before the next one starts he says, "More song!" A few days ago he woke up in the morning and was singing in his crib. When he finished one song he exclaimed, "More song!" Then he continued with another song.

One of his favorite songs to sing is "I've Been Working on the railroad," except with slightly different lyrics. His version is, "I've been working on the Rainbow, all the ling-dong day!"
